FAQ

Where will we meet for therapy? How does telehealth work?

Yes! I use a HIPAA-compliant service called Telehealth by SimplePractice. What I really like about this service is that you will be sent a link about ten minutes before the session, and all you have to do is click on the link to start the session.

As long as you have relatively decent Internet, we are good! Check out my telehealth page for more details.

How long are sessions?
Sessions are 55 minutes long. Typically, we meet weekly at a regular time that works for both our schedules.
How much do you charge?
I charge $150 per session. I accept all major credit cards, checks, and cash.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an “out-of-network”provider.

This means that you will pay for the session up front and then use paperwork that I will provide you to get reimbursement directly from your insurance provider.

What questions should I ask my insurance provider?
  1.  Do I have out-of-network benefits?
If not, you will not be reimbursed by your insurance for our sessions and will pay in full. If this is not an option for you, let me know. I will try to find another therapist in-network.
  2. If yes, what is my out-of-network deductible?
  3. Are telehealth sessions covered?
  4. What is the allowable rate for code 90837?
They probably won’t give this to you, but you can always try.
  5. What percentage of the allowable rate do I pay once I’ve reached my out-of-network deductible?
How do I set up an initial appointment?

First, we will start with a short phone call to see if we are a good fit.

A good fit can mean a lot of things. I will ask you a few questions, so I can decide if I think I can help you. Then, I can talk a little about how I work, and you can decide if you want to meet me.

We will discuss logistics to see if there is a time of day that works consistently for you and go from there.

A “good fit” continues in the first session. It’s important for you to consider this as we meet. Our relationship is the best predictor of a successful outcome in therapy.

What is your cancellation policy?

Once an appointment hour is scheduled, you will be expected to pay in full unless you provide a minimum of 48 hours’ advance notice.

This is barring extenuating circumstances, including unpredictable weather conditions.

Who do you work with?
I provide individual psychotherapy to adults (above 18 years old).
What do you actually do in sessions with clients?

That depends on you. If you know exactly what you need to talk about, we’ll go from there.

If you aren’t sure where to start, I may ask you, “How can I be useful to you today?”

Is therapy with you serious all the time?

Therapy is not just about crying. We will also laugh together, and I occasionally attempt a joke.

It’s important for your healing that you can go to the dark stuff and access the humorous part of you at the same time, or in the same session.
