Telehealth

How is telehealth psychotherapy different?

Therapy has never been more convenient.

In the privacy of your own home, you can now access the help you need but previously found difficult building into your life.

Does your pet comfort you? They are more than welcome into my virtual office!

Is getting across town a hassle? You do not need to worry about the metro running late or trying to find parking to make it to your appointment on time with telehealth.

Prefer not to share? Your boss does not need to know about your weekly standing appointment since you can fit our session into your regular lunch break without the travel time.

You can wear comfy clothes, too! Grab a blanket, find a comfortable spot, drink some tea, take off your shoes…the barriers you faced before to finding really good therapy have disappeared.

What is the same as an in-person session?

Everything. I offer you the same empathy, understanding, and expertise that I offer to you in person.

I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think this were true.

Would Freud be rolling over in his grave right now? Probably! But it’s about time we modernize psychotherapy.

How does it work?

I currently serve all my clients online via telehealth.

“Telehealth by SimplePractice” lets us use a HIPAA-secure program (that means your privacy is protected) to meet virtually.

You will need a computer, tablet, or phone that has both Internet access and a camera.

If you use a computer, all you will need to do is click on a link that will be sent to you before our appointment. If you use a tablet or phone, you will need to download an app.

Once you have this set up, you click the link sent in the email prior to your appointment.

If any of this is unfamiliar to you, I am happy to do a test call for you to try it out. I will also send you specific instructions prior to our first appointment on how telehealth works.

Our Connection Still Matters…

We experience empathy and connection through eye contact, facial expressions, and body language. All of which can be done through a screen, too. I had my own doubts when I transitioned from a physical office to a virtual one, and now I truly believe that there is no difference between them.

You will still get the full experience of having a therapist attuned to what you say. Together, we will sort through your feelings and find the way to what you need in your life. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you adjust and forget that we aren’t in the same room.

If you still have concerns about meeting virtually, let me know. I have a lot of tips and tricks to help you navigate this transition.

It’s normal to feel a little weird about starting therapy on a screen.

Starting something new with a new person is always scary, virtual or not.

Call me at (202) 656-8515 for a free 15-minute consultation. I’ll put your fears about telehealth at ease as we talk about what you are going through, how I will help you, answer your questions, and determine if we are a “good fit” to work together.
